Maji Rising is a non-profit organization created to start a health care and education center in Spokane, Washington to serve our neighbors who are experiencing the most need.

Maji Rising is based in Spokane, Washington, with a mission to cultivate a community of holistic care that empowers individuals to seek better outcomes for themselves. With a vision firmly set on creating a more equitable future, Maji Rising aims to foster the traditions of lineage-based health care, establishing a transformative community dedicated to healing and promoting overall well-being.

Together with our partner organization, Take Up the Cause, we form Beloved Kijiji - this unique project will encompass a harmonious blend of mixed-use housing, education, and healthcare services, catering specifically to the diverse needs of Spokane residents and neighbors. Inspired by the Swahili word for village, Beloved Kijiji represents a space where individuals can unite, celebrate and thrive collectively.

Take Up the Cause is a nonprofit organization formed to bring service-enriched affordable housing to East Central and other disinvested communities in Spokane. The Cause we Take Up is to uplift and stabilize the East Central Community, to help residents take control of their lives by taking the next step from homelessness to renting, from renting to ownership, and from ownership to supporting others in their community.

Our partnership to create Beloved Kijiji is in the early stages of development and focused on building a shared community vision amongst our partners and supporters. We expect that the project will apply for Low Income Housing Tax Credit and Housing Trust Fund financing in November 2024. If successful in securing funding, Beloved Kijiji would welcome its first residents to their new homes in 2026.

Maji Rising will provide healthcare services to Beloved Kijiji by opening a healthcare clinic that will offer residents and neighbors access to holistic healthcare services that are representative of the needs of the community.

What: A 72-unit mixed used affordable, inclusive housing community focused on meeting the needs of underrepresented people in the areas of healthcare, early learning, financial, and family services.

Where: The exact location is yet to be determined and the project will be located in the East Central Neighborhood of Spokane, Washington.
